Part 2 Midterm
What is Watson? Why is it so much harder for a computer to compete on jeopardy than to play chess? Do you think this is good thing? Will computers like this help or hurt people? What problems can computers solve? Are computers going to take away more jobs? Will computers eventually take over the world? What do you think?
Watson is a computer of IBM in which it has power 7 processors. It is very different, Watson understands the questions of Jeopardy. The questions of Jeopardy consist thinking, being confident and different. That's what Watson is about. It's hard for a computer to compete on Jeopardy than to play games, the computer will get confused of the meaning of the words and get the question wrong.
Yes, I think this is a good, computers are very smart. But us as humans need to be smart as well. I think this will help people because in health care natural languages are very important. That is exactly what Watson does. Computers can solve questions that has to do with different ways words are used and being different.
Computers are going to take over more jobs because it can do a better job than humans, which is processing a way a word is used. It can run many problems at once to find out how to process the language. I think that computers are going to take over the world because they are very smart and fast. They're working on stuff to make technology greater each day. People depend on computers in an every day life and if it has a brain of its own it can take over our life.

Do you think that smart phones will become a digital wallet? How does the author say this will be accomplished? What is so important about near-field communication? What will NFC enable people to use their cellphones to do? What do you think are the advantages and the disadvantages of NFC technology? How do you think people will feel about using this technology?
Yes, I think cell phones will replace wallets because of the huge impact of communication technology has become. I'm sure that's going to work because the author says that it will be able to make payments at a cash register, scan computer chips inside ads and posters for discounts and product info, and eventually incorporate driver's licenses and other forms of ID. So that means they won't be no need for wallets anymore because wallets were created to hold money, but the phone is going to be able to make payments. It's also created to hold IDs and drivers licenses, but the phone is going to be able to do that to. It's just like the digital wallet.
Near-field communication technology is so important because the phone is going to be able to call, text, get a coupon and be a digital wallet, which is going to be cool. I can't wait for it to come out, I'm sure it's going to replace wallets. Plus you can lose stuff in your wallet but as for the digital wallet there's no losing anything except your no good for nothing wallet. NFC will enable people to use their cellphones to scan something they want to buy, get a coupon for it and you just bring it to the NFC register for the discount.
The disadvantages about the NFC technology is that if you lose your cell phone someone can use your pone and buy stuff off your credit or debit card. But then there's a good side to it, you don't need a wallet anymore and it gives a coupon if there is on your phone for you to use. I think there are going to be a lot of people that are going to love this new technology but then there's those people that always look on the bad side of thing and don't appreciate it.

What do you think are some advantages of using a LAN at home or in school? Example: Share a printer
Some advantages of LAN at home is that it can connect other devices in the home. For example your scanner, mouse or keyboard
Lesson 1 The Big Picture
What do computer networks do?
Computer networks share information from one computer to another so anyone in you house can share data and stuff. It also shares equipments it's just like getting all the computers to print in one printer. It also share accessibility, if you were to go somewhere you can use your laptop or anything to send messages and stuff to your computer. It also can share the internet meaning that any computer in your house or where ever can use the same internet connection (just like we do in the school).
What are the 3 types of networks?
The three types of networks are LAN which is local area network, WAN which is the world wide web, and the internet.

Lesson 2: Do You Need a Network
How can a network improve business productivity and help businesses stay competitive?
Without the network it will be hard for the business to function. How can people connect to the internet, manage your business and send stuff to other people? If you set up a network you can organize your files in the computer without your stuff being everywhere.
What requirements can a network fulfill?
If you need to look up stuff or background people you are hiring or doing something for, then the network will help.

Dr. Martin Luther Kings Jr. died for his beliefs. What beliefs would you be willing to die for?
Dr. Martin Luther Kings Jr. died for his beliefs. He believed in peace, and no matter what color your skin is were all equal.A belief I would die for is freedom, I hate the idea of not being myself.
What effect do you think Martin Luther King Jr. had on your life? How is his message still relevant? Or is it? Why?
Martin Luther King.Jr has a positive affect on my life, if you want change in this world or in any situation, you have to make yourself change first. His message is still relevant because in certain jobs in life, you have to have a good background because the job is looking for the best and people to represent them. People treat others the way they want to be treated.

Lesson 6 Operating Systems
Operating System controls what the programs in a computer does.
User Friendly gives a list of other pages you can go to to find more information on what you are looking for. It's always there in google and or yahoo.
BIOS tells the computer how to start using a set of instructions.
Disk Operating System also known as DOS; it is in about all operating systems.
Graphical User Interface also known as GUI; it is based on graphics instead of text

Why do you think tablet computers have become so popular? What makes these devices so desirable
I think it's so popular because it's a new invention, plus you can carry it with you wherever you go.
What do you think is the most important feature of a tablet computer? How will this change the way we learn?
To me the most important feature is the wifi. It lets us explore the features of the world.

lesson 5: programs-simple gates
What is computer programming? How do bits and bytes allow computers to understand instructions? How do NOT Gates, AND Gates, and OR Gates work?
Computer programing is instructions that tells the computer how to perform a specific task. This computer program tells the computer how to do something. you can download programs like: games and videos e.t.c or word processing such as Microsoft word or power point.
Bytes and bits both have network address or many numbers to represent the address. And gate is a logical conjunction which a two-place logical connective that has the value true if both of its operands are true, otherwise a value of false. Not gate takes one bit as an input and produces as an output, Or gate is when the output is at it's high.

lesson 6 operating system
Operating System or OS
User friendly
BIOS
DOS
GUI
Operating System-It is the most important program on every computer.
User Friendly-Is a understanding for people who don't know how to use programs.
Bios-Is a call to wake the computer up.
Dos-Part of the computer that holds programs and send them to RAM whenever someone turns the computer on.
Gui-pictures or graphics that help the person navigate the computer system.
What is the purpose of an operating system? Write a paragraph.
The purpose of the operating system is so that Most desktop or laptop PCs come pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows. Macintosh computers come pre-loaded with Mac OS X. Many corporate servers use the Linux or UNIX operating systems. The operating system is the first thing loaded onto the computer, without the operating system, a computer is useless.
What does an Operating System allow a computer to do? Write a paragraph.
An operating system allows the computer to make changes to the computer if necessary. For a desktop computer user, this means you can add a new security update, system patch, new application or even an entirely new operating system rather than junk your computer and start again with a new one when you need to make a change. As long as you understand how an operating system works and how to get at it, in many cases you can change some of the ways it behaves. The same thing goes for your phone, too.

What device or devices do you prefer to use to access the Internet? Why?
I would prefer using my laptop to access the internet. When I'm home, I can be online in every room. Take it with me outside, to my friend's house.
Do you think that having Internet access is mainly for rich people? Are poor people be disadvantaged? Or does Internet access help poor people? Why?
I think internet access is for people who have a good job. Someone who has problems paying there bills, should not focus on having internet access. I do think that everyone should have internet access, if your rich or poor.
Why do you think tablet computers have become so popular? What makes these devices so desirable?
I think computers became so popular because it gives you imformation that you want at a fast rate and it's alot of amusment to keep people entertain and up to date with the world.

How do you record the Timing on Keynote?
The most elegance, well-built application suitable for transforming ordinary slides into extraordinary presentation - maybe sounds unfamiliar to Windows users' ears. In most case, it's due to the fact that Keynote has its own extension; The slides and effects created in Keynote can be opened only with Keynote. However, Keynote is quite popular among Mac users; Perhaps, Steve Jobs also used Keynote for his presentations. But, as I've experienced, presentations and/or movie effects made on Keynote can surely wow your friends who own only Windows.

What do you think is the most important feature of a tablet computer? How will this change the way we learn?
The iPad is the most impactful product of the decade not for what it has already changed, but what it will change in the decade to come. The iPad represents nothing less than the first real 3rd-generation personal computer. This change the way we learn because without figuring answers out on our own we have moving technology we can get accurate answers from anywhere we go.
Why do you think tablet computers have become so popular? What makes these devices so desirable?
I think that tablet computers such as the IPad are popular because its a computer in the palm of your hand. With the IPad you can go anywhere and still be able to use it.

Do you think that learning should be fun? Do you learn more or less when learning is fun? Why?
Yes, I strongly believe that learning should be fun. I learn more when my teacher is a funny person or the assignment is fun and I enjoy doing it. Learning should be fun because why should I learn from a boring, and stuck up teacher.
What are you planning to do to make 2011 the best year ever in school, at home and in the rest of your life?
In 2011, I'm going to focus more to get better grades in order to be happy and make this year the best in school. At home I'm going to clean more, and enjoy life.
